Sunshine Stars retain FA Cup

Sunshine Stars Football Club of Akure midweek defeated Akure City Academy 2-1 to win the 2022 edition of Ondo State FA Cup.
The final match decided at the Ondo State Sports Complex in Akure, Sunshine Stars’ midfielder Azeez Ajagbe opened scoring in the 65th minute.
Team captain Abe Sunday scored a free-kick from the edge of the penalty box to make it 2-0 in the 90th minute.
Three minutes into added time, a penalty was awarded to Akure City Academy after an infringement in the Sunshine Stars area, with Alade Abas utilising it to make the scores 2-1.
In his remarks, Chairman Ondo State Football Association (FA), Otunba Dele Ajayi said that all stakeholders should be hopeful of a better tomorrow.
“Ajayi added that “the association is working assiduously to ensure football is developed at all levels in the state.
“We will soon have a befitting state Governor’s Cup competition, and we are (at the moment) talking to sponsors,” he said.
Ajayi also advised football clubs in the state to register for the upcoming Ondo State League, saying the tournament’s winners would be registered for the Nationwide League One (NLO).
“Sensitisation has begun for participation in the Ondo State League. We urge club owners to register their teams for the league as the winners will represent Ondo State in the NLO.”
Furthermore, he urged fans and supporters of Sunshine Stars FC to continue with their good behaviour as they would be rewarded by the end of the season.
Sunshine Stars and Akure City Academy will now represent Ondo State in the Aiteo Cup competition which comes up soon.
This is by virtue of their emergence as finalists in the state FA Cup competition
