NSF: ODHA charges athletes on better performance

Ondo State House of Assembly committee on Information, Youth and Sports has charged the state athletes to do their best at winning more medals for the state in the upcoming National Sports Festival (NSF) and other competitions.
The House Committee Chairman, Olugbenga Omole gave the charge during its oversight visit to the State Sports Council in Akure.
Omole who congratulated the Council for the Athletes from the State who represented Nigeria in the just concluded commonwealth games and won medals, charged the Management to ensure no state poke them .
He urged the council to concentrate on games that the state have comparative advantage whenever they are going to any competitions, promising to continue to give legislative backing to the Council to further ensure sports development.
The Committee expressed joy at the way the Council is partnering with cooperate organisations to rehabilitate Ondo township Stadium, calling on sports loving individuals and organisations to partner with the state to further drive the sector.
The lawmakers advised the Management to showcase the state sports to the world through active social media and commercial department for serious investors to show interest.
Earlier, the General Manager of the Council, Mr Henry Babatunde who reeled out the activities and challenges to the Committee said the athletes are taking part in 29 sporting activities and have always participated in both national and international competitions and done the state proud.
The General Manager sought the support of the Committee in accessing fund for infrastructural development as the facilities in the need facelift.
He, however, informed that the State government has given approval for the renovation of Akure township Stadium and approval for the commercialisation of the swimming pool and hostels to generate fund.
While saying that the State Sports Trust Fund has also been approved by the State executive, he enjoined the Lawmakers to ensure it speedy passage when it gets to the House of Assembly.
The Committee Members were later taken round the facilities at the stadium for assessment.
