It’s a day of making history, as the Deji of Akure Kingdom, Oba Aladetoyinbo Ogunlade Aladelusi CFR, commissioned “ASIWAJU NDI IGBO MARKET” at Olisaro Layout Ijoka Road Akure on Tuesday, 29th November, 2022.
The Market is the first of its kind in the history of Akure where His Imperial Majesty, the Deji will commission a market in the name of Igbos residing in the State capital
While declaring the market open, the Odofin of Akure Kingdom, Bashorun Akin Adinlewa representing the Deji said the need to bring market closer to the people of the community necessitated the commissioning of the neighborhood market.
He said the market received the endorsement of Deji who has the sole responsibility of authorizing the establishment of market in Akure Kingdom.
The monarch said the Market will further boost the economy of the town, saying the Igbos many of who have spent more than 50 years in the town are no more strangers but sons of the soil.
He urged the community to cooperate with the leadership of the market, asking them to conduct themselves peacefully while doing their respective businesses.
While congratulating the Asiwaju Ndigbo in Akure for the honoured done on him with the naming of the market after his chieftaincy title, Asiwaju Ndigbo Market, he charged him to continue to extend his loyalty to the Deji of Akure at all times.
Speaking with newsmen, Asiwaju Ndigbo, Sir Titus Umenweke thanked Deji for being a man of his words who over the years has described him as the son of the soil, promising to do his best in providing necessary infrastructure that will make the market conducive for trading.
He commended the Monarch for creating another history with the market, adding that Asiwaju Ndigbo Market is the first Igbo authorized Market in Akure metropolis.
According to him, ” there is no easy access to the market but the traders could be assured that the road leading to the market will be graded and adequate security provided for the security of lives and property”, He added.
Chief Umenweke promised to mobilise other Non Indigene Leaders in the State to the market, saying Hausa, Ebira and Igala people will bring tomatoes, peepers, yams, beans, maize and other food items to the market.
Asiwaju said Igbo business men in the state will also bring their resources to the market, saying every trader in the market has equal right with no tribal discrimination.
Meanwhile, the people of the community thanked Asiwaju for facilitating the reopening of the market which was built under the administration of Agagu but gone moribund after few months of trading activities.
