ICPC storms NYSC Camps, engages Corps Members, on war against Corruption

The Independent Corrupt Practices and Other Related Offences Commission, ICPC, has taken the anti-corruption war to National Youth Service Corps orientation camps across the country, engaging corps members on how to fight corruption

The Chairman of the commission, Prof. Bolaji Owasanoye, while urging all the corps members across the country to shun any form of corruption at the NYSC permanent orientation camp, Ise Orun Local Government Area of Ekiti State as 2023 general election approaches, however, said any corps member found involved in election manipulation will face the consequences.

Owasanoye, who was represented by Principal Superintendent of the ICPC office in Akure, Mr. Jenmi Ganiu Owolabi said the commission’s partnership with the NYSC was to mobilize the corps members to join the fight against corruption.

While delivering a sensitization lecture entitled “The Role Of The Youth In The Fight Against Corruption”, Mr. Jenmi said, “ICPC cannot fight corruption alone. We partner with various segments of the society to ensure that corruption is eradicated from the society and probity and integrity is institutionalized.”

According to him, the essence of the lecture was to encourage and motivate the corps members to take ownership of the fight against corruption.

He said, “As you do these things, the fight against corruption would be won, one person at a time, one locality at a time. Do not be discouraged. It took a long time for corruption to become so entrenched in our system. It might take a longer time for it to be eradicated. But with “dedication and selflessness” we will make it.

“Youths are strategic partners in the crusade against corruption because they have the vibrancy, physical and mental alertness, passion for life, creativity and exuberance to make them instrument for social change.

“Youths are a critical segment of the society and the Commission does not ever miss any opportunity to train them on how to join the fight against corruption so that we can have a nation that we can all be proud of.

“Youths should be involved in the fight against corruption because they are the ones that are affected the most by the negative effects of corruption, and whose dreams will be destroyed if corruption is left unchecked.”

He, however, said the commission would not relent in engaging public education/enlightenment and mobilization in order to fight against corruption in the country.

While the Assistant Director of the NYSC, Engr. Tayo Odeyemi, commended the ICPC for their vital role in ensuring corruption is eradicated.
