18 Local Govts receive N57m Land use charge, Radio/TV revenues from ODIRS

The Ondo State Internal Revenue Service (ODIRS), today presented cheques of a sum of N57,520,001.36 million to the 18 local government chairmen in the State as the revenues accrue from the Land Use Charge as well as Radio and Television advertisements for the second part of the year.

The ODIRS had earlier in June 2022, disbursed the sum of N30m and N15,199,999.92 million as Land Use Charge as well as Radio & TV advert revenues to the council bosses.

Speaking at the presentation held at the agency’s Headquarters in Akure, the Executive Chairman of the ODIRS, Mr Tolu Adegbie stated that each council boss received the cheque of N3.2m.

Mr Adegbie, expressed the commitment of the ODIRS to increasing the revenue profile of the State by next year, through the capturing of residents phone details.

“While for radio and Tv advert, 15million was shared in June and 19 million for December. For radio and Tv, each local government will get 1million, 84 naira and for land use charge, each local government will get 2.1 million naira. Making it a total of 3.2 million naira for every local government in Ondo State.

“ODIRS is going round to collect information of property owners or people who reside in the property or those managing the property for the aged ones. And the plan for next year is that, instead of going round, because of the forth coming election, when we get their phone numbers, we will distribute bills, once that is done, we start sending texts to the property owners to go and pay, they can read it at their convenience and it will serve as a reminder to them, instead of knocking on people’s doors.”

“My message for the people of Ondo State is that they should give us their full information, we are only sending a text as a reminder to pay land use charge and if you pay your land use charge on time, we won’t be sending a text. Secondly, when you get the bill, please pay up your land use charge as government needs the money.”

The Chairman, Association of Local Government of Nigeria (ALGON) Mr Augustine Oloruntogbe in his reaction appreciated Governor Akeredolu for bringing development and innovations to the state.

“We are proud to stand by him, he is not part of the Governors that spends Local Government money, especially allocation from Abuja.”

Oloruntogbe opined that the money given to the local government chairmen will be justified in about 3 months.

He also assured the people of Ondo State that they will get the value of their money, stressing that Governor Akeredolu’s government is prudent, clear and working for the people of the State.

While appreciating the management of ODIRS for the good works they have been doing, Oloruntogbe urged them to keep up the good works.
