163,000 litres of adulterated Petrol seized, 15 persons arrested —Ondo NSCDC

….Records 1,900 cases in one year.

The state commandant of Nigeria Security And Civil Defence Corps (NSCDC) Engr. Olayinka Olatundun has vowed to ensure a peaceful 2023 general elections, this is part of projection for year 2023.

He made this known while addressing the newsmen at a media parley at the Command State headquarters, Oda road, Akure.

He said that “the peaceful election would be realized through sincere determination and selfless efforts of collaboration with INEC and security agencies. Working with the media to sensitize electorates to conduct themselves in a peaceful manner before, during and after the elections.”

“Other projection includes: Massive deployment to safeguard critical national assets and infrastructure of government, Zero tolerance to economic saboteur vandalizing oil pipelines and dealing in adulterated petroleum products, Synergizing and collaborating with the other sister agencies to ensure that Ondo state remain the safest state in Nigeria, training and retraining of personnel to enhance their tactical skills, Ondo safe initiative, Free School Security training, Safe School Initiative, Efforts toward deployment of technology for security and protection. 

According to the Commandant, between January and December 2022, 1,900 cases were incidented with the following statistical details: 14 cases of suspected dealing in adulterated petroleum products, 12 cases of  vandalization of transformer, 14 cases of stolen prepaid meters, 35 cases of malicious damage of farm by herders, 10 cases of cybercrime, 10 cases of robbery, 4 cases of illegal mining amongst many others.

“The Anti-Human Trafficking, Irregular Migration and Gender Unit handled 150 cases which goes to show that the rate of domestic violence, rape and other domestic crimes are on the increase. The statistics above shown a higher number of reported cases as against 2021 which was put at 1,725 and this could be due to increase in public confidence in the Corps.

“It is also worthy of note that our 25 Grievance Management Centres cut across the state entertained 510 cases in the year under review with 406 cases resolved using Alternative Dispute Resolution.

“The rejuvenated Anti-vandalism Unit of the Command arrested 15 suspects in the year under review and a total of 163,000 litres of adulterated petroleum products were recovered.

“Also recovered were 4 trucks, 7 wooden boats, 3 sequoia jeep amongst other vandalization tools. The cases are still ongoing in the court.”

He added that Commandant General, Ahmed Abubakar Audi PhD, mni, OFR gracious gave the Command a gun boat to police the water ways of the State in addition to the 3 existing wooden boats to shore up the capacity of our marine patrol which has helped in a great deal to keep vandals at bay on our waters.

“From the Counter Terrorism unit, 172 cases were handled ranging from online fraud, threat to life, cybercrime, stealing and cultism. 154 suspects were arrested (91 male and 63 female)”.

“In the year under review, 320 personnel were trained on weapon handling, combat craft and tactical maneuvering and they are presently helping out in providing security for the good people of Ondo State.

“The Female Squad, our all-female arm bearing team did a vulnerability assessment on all the 1,601 schools in the state with the goal of sensitizing the school community on their personal security under the Safe School Initiative of the Commandant General.

“The Command Quick Response Squad has also collaborated with other sister agencies on Joint Task Force and Vehicular patrol of flash points in the State”.

“ONDO SAFE INITIATIVE, an acronym for ONDO SECURITY AWARENESS FOR EVERYBODY an initiative of the Command targeted to awakening the security consciousness of the populace of the State has yielded tremendous result with the feedback we got”.

“As part of her advocacy on personal security, the Command embarked on free School Security training of Achievers University security personnel where about 150 security staff were trained on functional security in school environment with certification.

“Just recently, the command organized a security stakeholders forum where government functionaries, captain of industries, traditional rulers and some other none state actors came together to discuss the security situation of the country and what they think the Corps could do better to enhance its service delivery to the good people of the Sunshine State”.

He added that the Command enjoyed a seamless working relationship with other sister agencies in the State and this could be seen before, during and after the yuletide period as they collaborated to keep the State safe.

Olatundun appreciated the State government under the able leadership of the Governor, Arakunrin Oluwarotimi Odunayo Akaredolu CON (SAN) for his support to the Corps in the area of provision of logistics.

He added that “the Command got 3 operational vehicles from the State government in the outgone year. He also solicited for more support from the government this year.”
