New Town retains Destination Ondo inter- Street tourney title

New Town FC have emerged winners of the second edition of the Destination Ondo Inter -Street Football Competition for the second time.

The street retained the Trophy they won last year after defeating Housing Estate FC 2-1 in the final match of the grassroots football competition played at the Ondo City Stadium.

Eight streets have participated in the competition, sponsored by the Chairman of the La Campagne Tropicana Beach Resort, Otunba Wanle Akinboboye.

In a chat with Sporting Hope Ondo West Football Association Chairman, Bobola Akinfolarin thanked the sponsor for giving back to his community by positively engaged the youths through sports.

Akinfolarin said the second edition of the competition was an improvement on the maiden edition.

He commended all the participating teams for playing according to the rules of the competition.

He said: “We thank the sponsor for his efforts in ensuring our youths are not idle, some of the outstanding players discover in the competition will be monitoring, mentor and nurture so that they can become stars in the future.”

“We are hoping that the third edition will be better than the second edition.”

New Town FC went home with cash prize of N500,000, the runner up, Housing Estate received N300,000, while Third and Fourth positions got N120,000 and N80,000 respectively.
