The Commissioner representing Ondo State on the governing board of the Niger Delta Development Commission (NDDC), Gbenga Edema, has expressed his unwavering optimism for Sunshine Queens football club’s potential to gain promotion to the Nigeria Women’s Football League (NWFL).
While vowing to actively support the club in achieving its goals of emerging victorious in the qualifiers, which will kick off on June 7, 2023, in Ogun State, Edema stated that Sunshine Queens has what it takes to elevate its status to the prestigious NWFL.
A total of Twelve teams will be slugging it out in the competition and only two teams will qualify for the country’s women premier league.
In a statement issued by his spokesman, Dr. Tob Loko, Edema emphasised that every indigene of the state looks up to the success and triumph of the Sunshine Queens, particularly due to the talent and hard work possessed by the team.
With the qualifiers in sight, Edema described it as an opportunity for the club to showcase its talents and secure a well-deserved position in the elite league.
The erstwhile lawmaker, who expressed his commitment to the development of sports, particularly women’s football, stressed that the club has over the years established itself as a force to be reckoned with in women’s football in Nigeria.
He called on stakeholders, corporate organisations, and well-meaning individuals to rally behind Sunshine Queens towards ensuring their growth and success.
As Sunshine Queens embark on their journey towards the NWFL, Edema’s commitment and support will undoubtedly serve as a source of motivation and inspiration for the players and the entire club.
