20 teams to battle for Olugbenga Eleduma Unity Cup in Owo

Twenty football clubs are expected to battle for honour at the 4th edition of Olugbenga Eleduma 2023 Unity Cup, scheduled to kick off on August 20 in Owo local government area of Ondo State.

The 4th edition of the Cup Competition will be organised and sponsored by Gatplus Dynamic Resources in collaboration with Owo Football Association at the City’s Stadium.

The coordinator of the competition, Roland Ademisoye Ajayi in a chat with Sporting Hope in Akure, the state capital, disclosed that the Unity Cup is being put in place to herald budding talents in Owo local government and its environ.

He added that the focus of the sponsor, Olugbenga Eleduma, was to discover and promote potential football stars in the ancient city of Owo.

 Ajayi said government can not develop sports alone in the country, saying other private organisations should take a cue from the sponsor of the Unity Cup and join hands with the government to develop sports in all ramifications.

“We thank the sponsor for identifying sports as not only the best tool to foster unity among the youths, but as a means to keep them off social vices.”

He said the competition would be organised in form of scouting programme, saying scouts will be on ground to select outstanding players for grooming and promotion in their football career.

“There is a big plan for the selected outstanding players of the competition”

According to him,”about five outstanding players discovered in the last three editions are now playing in the Nationwide League One (NLO), some of them will be playing in Nigeria Elite League soon”

The best player of this 4th edition will give positive testimony after the competition”, he said.
