The State Commandant of the Nigeria Security and Civil Defence Corps, Ondo State Command , Engr Olatundun Olayinka has assured the Child Protection Network (CPN) of the command readiness to further collaborate in the areas of fight against child abuse, improving mental health of women and gender based violence (GBV).
The assurance was made on Tuesday, 5th September, 2023 during an advocacy visit to the Commandant, by the State Coordinator of Child Protection Network Nigeria, Ondo State Chapter, Mrs Olabisi Omolona and other members of the Network.
While speaking earlier, Mrs Omolona appreciated the Corps for her giant strides in the area of child protection. She noted that the rate of child abuse in the state is on the increase while the mental health of women due to the economic hardship has become questionable.
“More alarming is the rate at which children are now engaged in the use of illicit substances and the use of under age children in the rural areas for farming.” She said.
In his response, the Commandant assured the Network of the continuous support of the command in the protection of the children and the vulnerable.
“Child protection is our duty, the Commandant General, Ahmed Abubakar Audi, mni OFR established the Gender Unit and Anti-Human Trafficking and Irregular Migration Unit to protect the children against abuses. NSCDC is passionate about this fight of abuse targetted at the child in Nigeria and we will not relent here in Ondo State.
Olatundun promised to discuss the issue of sellers of illicit drugs at the next Heads of Security meetings in order to proffer a lasting solution.
He also advised religious and traditional leaders to preach the message of hope to their congregants and subjects to improve their mental health.
