As part of preparation ahead of the 2023/24 Nigeria Women Football League (NWFL), Sunshine Queens Football Club of Akure are in Abuja to participate in the 6th edition of Sheroes Cup pre-season competition.
Sunshine Queens FC, returned to Elite league this season after coming 2nd in group B at the women Championship playoffs in Ogun State.
The club played a season at the lower league, having relegated in 2021/22 season alongside Pelican Stars FC.
The Akure Landladies arrived Abuja on Friday afternoon and are ready to face Naija Ratels in the second match of the Pre- Season competition at Aguiyi Ironsi Barracks by 4pm.
The head coach of Sunshine Queens, Oladimeji Abimbola said his target coming to the competition was not to win alone, rather to assess the quality of the players in all departments.
He thanked the management of the club for their support in ensuring that the team parade best players in the league, by approving their participation in the Pre- Season competition.
He said: “Participating in competition like this will give the coaching crew more insight into the team and will also allow the players to know themselves better, because this is a grade A pre-season competition.”
“We are not here to win alone, we are here to assess the players we have on ground ahead of the league, this competition will afford us the opportunity to correct our mistakes and make adjustment where necessary.”
