Sunshine Queens FC today narrowly loss 2-1 to Naija Ratels in the ongoing 6th edition of Sheroes pre-season Cup competition played at Aguiyi Ironsi Barracks, Abuja.
The pre – season encounter between the two Nigeria Women Football League sides started with both teams displaying football artistry depict of elite league teams.
The host team scored in the 21and 82 minutes of the encounter, before Sunshine Queens striker, Eunice Ezeani reduced the deficit in the 86 minutes.
Efforts to get a leveller by the New NWFL returning were resisted by the Naija Ratels back line.
Sunshine Queens head coach ,Oladimeji Abimbola commended her players for their fighting spirit, insisted that the competition was not about winning,but opportunity to assess both the old and new players.
He said: “Our target coming here was to use the pre-season to build a strong team that will be able to compete with any team in the league.”
“We are here to test our players’ ability and see how we can blend them together”.
“With this competition, we have been able to know more about our team, and areas where we will be working on, we still have four more matches to play and more room for corrections before the league start in November” he said.
