Akoko Bye-election: We didn’t endorse Ife Ehindero —Ilepa wards leaders

13th Nov., 2023
PRESS STATEMENT

DISCLAIMER FROM ILEPA QUARTER ON PURPORTED ENDORSEMENT OF IFE EHINDERO

WE STAND RESOLUTE WITH THE DECISION OF AKOKO NORTH (EAST & WEST) ON EXISTING BROTHERLY ROTATION

The attention of Ilepa community has been drawn to a statement on the purported endorsement of one Ife Ehindero for the vacant House of Representatives Seat in the forthcoming Bye-election for Akoko North East/West Federal Constituency.

While we acknowledge that there was a meeting of the leaders of Ilepa Ward 1 and II at Chief Olodeagbede’s house, however, there was no such endorsement. The meeting reiterated the general stand and “consensus ad idem” of rotation that has been the age long practice of two loving sons of same parents and heritage.

The news of such purported endorsement is a misrepresentation of events, ill-conceived , unwarranted, a figment of the imagination of the peddlers, and a calculated attempt to cause confusion and chaos in Ilepa for cheap Political propaganda.

The elements behind such fake endorsement have been working overtly and covertly to engineer a subversion of the established rotational arrangement by our political forefathers between Akoko North East and North West since return to democratic system in the fourth republic.

This further exposes their jittery nature as they parade an unpopular candidate seeking to buy endorsement by hook or crook. The discerning members of Ilepa Community and the entire Ikare Akoko -Akoko Northeast and West should disregard such fake news of endorsement.

The purported endorsement in circulation is done by a few individuals who do not represent the interest of the people and by and large not from Ikare Akoko. Those gittery and seeking for political endorsement to level up should know that their time is up.

The people will decide, and the voice from Akoko Northeast to Northwest is to maintain the rotation order that has kept us united and enhanced development.

We wish to re-emphasize that Ilepa is a cornerstone of Ikare’s existence in terms of economy and social development, which has also been seen as a cynosure of all eyes. Consequently, we the Chiefs and Leaders of Ilepa Quarter as well as other like-minded people within Ilepa hereby boldly and unequivocally dispel the notion of such fake endorsement and dissociate ourselves completely from it.

We also use this medium to bring to the notice of the general public that we remain committed and dedicated to the worthy and noble cause of maintaining the established rotational agreement which will return the House of Representatives seat back to Ikare Akoko, Akoko North East Local Government so as to clampdown on the disequilibrium of power which already brewing disunity and making a mockery of the collective Akoko North ability to live together and maintain harmonious relationship.

We are against any perceived attempt to use the name of Ilepa community to pursue any unholy Political crusade which is aimed at marginalizing Akoko North East Local Government in favour of any candidate who lacks pedigree or understand the yearnings and aspiration of the people.

We urge all those pursuing such ignoble agenda to desist forthwith. Any attempt to shuttle these existing arrangements will be met with stiff resistance and tough consequences in the political landscape. The perpetrators will be held accountable for as long as it takes. Enough is enough. Even if it takes generations and more. To be forewarned is to before armed.
