Men of the Nigerian Navy Forward Operating Base (FOB), Igbokoda, Ondo State, have arrested a suspected cultist identified as Tosin Wandele for terrorising residents of Ilaje Local Council of the state.
The Guardian learnt that the 24-year-old suspect has been on the watch list of security agencies in the state.
Parading the suspect yesterday, the commanding officer of the Base, Captain Wasuku Alushi, said the arrest was in tandem with FOB’s plan to sustain the fight against cultism, and other criminal activities in their area of operation.
He said: “The suspect with others currently at large have been harassing and intimidating passersby with dangerous weapons.
“Consequently, based on credible intelligence, we responded and arrested the suspect.
“It would also interest you to know that the head of Igbokoda vigilante has confirmed that the suspect is a notorious and known cultist who has been terrorising the area for a long time.
“He has been handed over to the Department of State Services (DSS) for further investigation. It is pertinent to state that the Base has continued to collaborate with other security agencies in stemming the tide of cultism within its area of operation.”
Alushi added: “Nonetheless, the Base will further maintain her aggressive posture against any form of criminality so as to enable legitimate businesses to thrive undeterred.
“The Base is also calling on the good people of Igbokoda not to hesitate in providing timely and actionable intelligence on criminal elements for possible arrest.”
