A former representative of Ondo State on the governing board of the Niger Delta Development Commission (NDDC), Olugbenga Edema, has expressed deep sorrow over the demise of Ondo State Governor, Oluwarotimi Akeredolu.

In an emotional tribute, Edema praised the late Akeredolu for his visionary leadership and unwavering commitment to the development of Ondo State and the country at large.

Edema, a lawyer and former lawmaker, described the late governor as a bold, courageous leader and a true statesman who had selflessly dedicated himself to the betterment of the state and its people.

“I am deeply saddened by the untimely passing of Governor Oluwarotimi Akeredolu. He exhibited courage, boldness, and fearlessness as a leader.”

The former OSOPADEC Chairman emphasised the remarkable achievements of the late Akeredolu in various sectors, including infrastructure, education, security, healthcare, and agriculture.

“Akeredolu’s dedication to the progress of Ondo State was truly remarkable. His transformative initiatives, such as the expansion of infrastructure, the creation of Amotekun Corps for the entire Southwest region, the enhancement of educational facilities, and the promotion of agriculture, have had a lasting impact on the state and its people. We have lost a visionary leader whose legacy will continue to inspire us.”

Edema praised the late governor for his efforts in attracting investments to the state, which had significantly contributed to the economic growth of the state.

Edema recalled that the late governor had provided him with invaluable opportunities to serve in key positions. Akeredolu had initially appointed Edema as the Chairman of the Ondo State Oil Producing Areas Development Commission (OSOPADEC) and subsequently recommended him to serve on the board of the NDDC.

He urged the people of Ondo State to unite during this period of grief and to continue to uphold the values and principles championed by the late Governor Akeredolu. He called on residents and citizens to remember the late governor’s legacy and strive towards sustaining the progress achieved.

“The passing of Governor Akeredolu is a great loss to Ondo State. Let us come together as a state and honour his memory by preserving the positive transformation he brought to our state. We must remain committed to the pursuit of development, peace, and unity, just as he did.”
