Amotekun commanders, officers honour late Akeredolu, holds candlelight walk |

Commanders and officers of the South West Security Network (SWSN), known as Amotekun Corps, held a candlelight walk to honour the late Generalissimo of the formation, Oluwarotimi Akeredolu.

The candlelight walk saw the commanders from all five Southwest states, along with their officers, gather at Cathedral Junction in Akure, the capital of Ondo State.
Chanting songs in praise of Akeredolu, the commanders and officers embarked on a walk from Cathedral Junction to the Governor’s Office in Alagbaka, paying tribute to the late Generalissimo.
According to the commanders, the gesture served as a mark of respect for Akeredolu’s enormous contributions to the establishment and success of the Amotekun Corps.

During their visit to Governor Lucky Aiyedatiwa at the Governors’ Office, he expressed his commitment, assuring the commanders that all governors in the Southwest states would uphold and support the formation initiated by Akeredolu.
He emphasised that the security and well-being of the residents in the Southwest would never be taken for granted.
Emphasising the role played by Amotekun Corps in maintaining peace and security in the Southwest, Aiyedatiwa assured the commanders of his unwavering dedication to preserving the progress achieved thus far.

He lauded his late boss for his visionary leadership in establishing the Amotekun Corps and pledged to continue the legacy.
Leading all the Corps commanders, the Corps Commander, the Ondo State Commander, Adetunji Adeleye, said, “The Corps commanders of Oyo, Osun, Ekiti, Ogun, and myself, along with hundreds of their men, came to pay a solidarity visit to the government and good people of Ondo State on the loss of our amiable governor, who has been the front leader of Amotekun Corps.
“We have met all the governors, and all of them have shown their solidarity to the people of Ondo State. All the Corps commanders travelled all the way from their various states today; that’s the essence of the 5-kilometre walk we embarked on today.

“The good work he (Akeredolu) has done is mainly in the security system in the South-West. We all knew what the security situation was before the creation of Amotekun; that’s about three years ago, and we are living testimony to the fact that security in the South-West has greatly improved. We are resolute in continuing the good work that he started. That’s our own contribution to immortalising him as our great leader.
“We already have the reassurance from the Governor of Ondo State, Hon. Lucky Aiyedatiwa, that he will continue the good work that Arakunrin Oluwarotimi Akeredolu was doing in Amotekun. So we don’t have any fear at all.”
Corps Commander from Oyo State, Colonel Olayinka Olayanju (red), noted that Amotekun Corps would continue operating, saying it has matured greatly.
He said Amotekun Corps has passed the stage, which could pose a fear that it could collapse because it has grown over the years.
