OPEN LETTER TO HIS EXCELLENCY GOVERNOR LUCKY ORIMISAN AYEDATIWA ON PROTEST REGARDING THE ABANDONED 2KM IMO ARIGIDI ROAD, ALONG IKARE – AJOWA – LOKOJA FEDERAL ROAD.
Foremost, the Imo Arigidi Youth Forum leverages this open letter to joins other well meaning public members to congratulate your Excellency on the occasion of your birthday commemoration, yesterday. We wish you many happy returns of the great day sir.
Having congratulated your Excellency, we are thrilled to commend your stride towards road infrastructures building across the state as contained in your executive order and directive issued, to all road contractors to return to sites with immediate effect and to speeding completion of all ongoing road projects.
Without mincing words, it is a good move in a good direction to building a state of viable economy. And this serves as a testament to your clear vision and commitment to serving Ondo state in which Imo Arigidi People are proud citizens.
Your Excellency, while we commend your expression of determination of your administration to hit the ground running with the implementation of policies and programmes of government as scheduled to budget, assuring on timely payment for jobs done by contractors, we are writing this letter as intensification of our long overdue ongoing protest and agitation on the 2km portion of the Ikare – Ajowa – Lokoja Federal Road been abandoned for about 15year now, leaving the community (Imo Arigidi) residents in a perpetual sorry state and danger resulting to annual dust hazard which poses health threats to the residents, causing respiratory health issues, asthmatic issues and lives’ damages among the residents.
Your Excellency, it also noteworthy, the significant roles of this said federal road in improving both the Ondo State economy and Nigeria economy by extension. This said road is a popular and most preferred route/road for the travelers (Government officials, commercial trucks and buses, travelling from the southwest region to the northern Nigeria (Lagos – Abuja).
Your Excellency, we want to also bring to your notice that, efforts have been given in lawful manners and peaceful spirit since the beginning of this gross abandonment and neglect to call government attention to it. On the 21st of December 2023, among the appropriate offices of Ondo State Government in Akure, we formally submitted a protest cum resolution letter on this gross abandonment to your esteemed office, as the then Acting Governor of Ondo State before your emergence as the Executive Governor of the state.
This Government negligence and neglect started during the administration of Dr. Olusegun Mimiko awarded the reconstruction of Ikare – Ajowa – Lokoja Road around year 2009 – 2011 and this 2km stretch of the road was abandoned after removing the exiting asphalt pavement.
In our unwavering agitating effort, a peaceful protest demonstration was staged on the federal, on the 4th of January 2024 by Akoko Youths in which we’ve released our subsequent resolutions on the road in our published Protest Communiqué (https://www.sunshinetruthng.com/akoko-youths-protest-over-deplorable-ikare-arigidi-ajowa-road/ ). Till now; we are still expecting Ondo state government under your able leadership, to response and attend to this long overdue agitation and stop the gross abandonment and neglect. Your Excellency, while we sincerely commend and believe in your commitment to serving ondo people, we appealing to you, to as a matter of urgency, health protection and lives’ safety to order the construction completion of this abandoned 2km span road before the imminent coercive decision by the community’s youths on the injustice as we can no longer bear the 15year damage to health and lives again.
We anticipate for your magnanimous response and directive as we have rightly demanded.
