Ondo APC governorship primary declared inconclusive — News

The Ondo State All Progressive (APC) governorship primary election have been declared inconclusive.

The Chairman of the seven-member committee for the conduct of the primaries in the state, and current Kogi governor, Usman Ododo, made the declaration on Saturday night.
According to reports, the primaries, held across 203 wards in the 18 local government areas, witnessed some disruptions in parts of the state.
Reacting to the development, Ododo said the elections will continue in Okitipupa on Sunday, the area where violence was reported to have disrupted the process.

“Having received reports of the primary election from the 203 Wards in the 18 Local Governments of Ondo State, the Primary election Committee has decided that election will be conducted in all the 13 Wards of Okitipupa Local Government with total validated registered members of 9,515,” Ododo said.

“This is because of validated reports that the exercise did not hold in the Local government due to late arrival of materials and personnel as a result of logistics challenges.

“Election in Okitipupa Local Government shall be conducted 12 noon on Sunday 21st April 2024.
“The final collation of the results will be done thereafter.”
Meanwhile, Okitipupa is a stronghold of one of the aspirants and serving senator, Jimoh Ibrahim.
In a related development, five governorship aspirants of the APC had called for the cancellation of the primary election over alleged irregularities.

The aspirants are Jimi Odimayo, Olugbenga Edema, Olusola Oke, Wale Akinterinwa and Dayo Faduyile.
They called for the removal of Ododo as chairman of the electoral committee and repeat the process.
According to the aspirants, in separate statements, they alleged that there were no elections in the wards and that materials were not available at voting centres.
Not fewer than 16 aspirants contested the primaries, including the state governor, Lucky Aiyedatiwa.
