The Ondo State Entrepreneurship Agency (ONDEA) has disclosed that efforts have begun to create 5,000 remote jobs for youths, which will in turn boost the economy of the state.
Chairman of the Agency, who is also the Special Adviser to Governor Lucky Aiyedatiwa on Entrepreneurship and Innovation, Dr. Summy Smart Francis, disclosed that the initiative was designed to make Akure the tech capital of the country.
According to Smart, the jobs that will be created in partnership with international companies will span over a period of five years, through which sustainable employment that will allow residents to work from the comfort of their homes will be provided.
He said: “The new portal launched by ONDEA is designed to facilitate training and job placement for eligible applicants. Through strategic partnerships with foreign brands, ONDEA seeks to secure a wide range of remote jobs, spanning various industries and skill levels.
“This initiative is expected to significantly enhance living standards and contribute to the state’s overall economic development. This unique initiative is one of the big steps in the road map designed by ONDEA towards making Akure the tech capital of the nation.
“The job placements will include positions in tech, off-site perimeter surveillance, content creation and design, digital marketing, software development, virtual customer service, remote writing and editing, video editing, virtual personal assistance, online tutoring, and many others.
“ONDEA’s collaboration with international companies is a key aspect of this initiative. By partnering with reputable foreign brands, ONDEA ensures that remote job opportunities are both diverse and plentiful. This global collaboration not only brings high-quality job prospects to the residents of Ondo State but also integrates the local workforce into the international job market.
“Recognising the importance of equipping applicants with the necessary skills, ONDEA has included a comprehensive training programme as a prerequisite for job placement. This training will cover essential skills required for remote work, ensuring that candidates are well-prepared to meet the demands of their new roles.
“By investing in the professional development of residents, ONDEA aims to create a competent and competitive workforce that can thrive in a globalised job market. With more residents gainfully employed, the initiative is expected to enhance living standards and reduce poverty levels.
“The increased income and economic activity generated by these remote jobs will contribute to the state’s overall economic growth, making Ondo State a model for innovative employment solutions in Nigeria.Interested parties in these remote job opportunities can apply through the newly launched ONDEA portal. Applicants will undergo a selection process, followed by the mandatory training program. Upon successful completion, candidates will be placed in remote job positions with the collaborating international companies.
“We are committed to creating sustainable employment opportunities for our people. This collaboration with international companies allows us to provide high-quality remote jobs that will not only reduce unemployment but also improve the economic landscape of Ondo State.”
