Women protest half naked over killing of farmer in Ondo community —

Women in Uba-Oka Akoko in Akoko South West Local Council Area of Ondo State, on Tuesday, protested against the killing of a farmer in the community, Sunday Ayeni.

The women, who were half naked, marched to the palace of the Olubaka of Oka-Akoko, Oba Adebori Adeleye, to express their grievances over the gruesome killing of Ayeni by suspected herders.
The protesting women who stormed the palace during a security meeting alleged that the suspected herdsmen also raped some women on their farmlands and vandalised their crops.
Ayeni was killed a few days ago on his farmland by unknown assailants after receiving financial compensation for the destruction of his crops by the cows of a herder.

With the farmer infuriated over the destruction, a mediation was made by some elders in the community, who instructed that the herder should pay an undisclosed amount to the late farmer as compensation.
However, tension heightened in the community after the corpse of the deceased farmer was discovered by a search party, which combed the farm after he failed to return home.

Speaking on behalf of the protesting women, Mrs. Abigail Ojo, while narrating their ordeals, said they had practically abandoned their farms over the fear of being attacked.
Ojo called on security agencies to help find lasting solutions to their problems, particularly that peace should return to the agrarian community.
