NEMSA, Ondo Agency ‘OSERB’ collaborate for Electrical Standards

NEMSA AND OSERB FORGE NEW COLLABORATIONS FOR ELECTRICAL STANDARDS

In the determination to further curb the challenges associated with safety and compliance in the electricity sector of the state, the Nigeria Electricity Management Services Agency (NEMSA) has convened a meeting with the Ondo State Electricity Regulatory Bureau (OSERB), to discuss the establishment of an Equipment Standard and Competence Certification Department.

The Special Adviser to the Governor on Energy, Engr. Johnson Alabi, who made this statement to newsmen after the meeting held with the Agency in Akure, explained that the initiative was aimed at enhancing the regulation and enforcement of electricity and electrical standards across Ondo State.

Giving his remarks, Chairman Transition Committee, Engr. Olatunji Light, provided an overview of the Ondo State Power Sector Law and emphasized the importance of collaboration between Nigeria Electricity Management Services Agency (NEMSA) and Ondo State Electricity Regulatory Bureau (OSERB) towards the effective regulation of the electricity market.

Mr. Lisma Usman who appreciated the teams for coming together to brainstorm on best practices in the electricity sector, opined that outcomes of the meeting would positively impact on the people of the state even as he outlined NEMSA’s responsibilities, including the certification of electrical installations obtainable nationwide.

He further highlighted the need for joint efforts so as to ensure safety and compliance, noting that the certification processes cannot be managed by one party alone likewise other key outcomes which were as follows: Joint collaboration on certification and enforcement of technical standards; Formation of a ten-member sub-team to draft a Memorandum of Agreement (MOU) within two weeks and the need for NEMSA to prepare a draft document for review by the Special Adviser on Energy.

At the close of the meeting, Engr. Johnson Alabi, reaffirmed the support of Governor Lucky Orimisan Aiyedatiwa and government’s commitment to collaborating with the Nigeria Electricity Management Services Agency (NEMSA) to enforce the Ondo State Electric Power Sector Law 2020 towards adequate regulation of electricity.

The meeting had in attendance key stakeholders and top officials from both agencies as well as Engr. Bolawole Stephen who led the Ondo State Electricity Regulatory Bureau (OSERB) team.
