Achievers University targets new Salary, Pension Scheme for Workers

….As Varsity honours Owo Monarch, Justice Ayo Salami, Prof Pantami

The Achievers University, Owo, Ondo state, has vowed that it will give top priority to welfare of its workers, including implementation of new Pension system and New salary scale for academic staff as signed by ASUU recently.

The Pro-Chancellor and Chairman of the institution’s Council, Dr. Bode Ayorinde, disclosed this during the 12th Convocation and 15th Anniversary of the institution held at the university’s campus on Saturday 10th December, 2022.

This is just as a Former Speaker of House of Representatives and Chancellor of Achievers University, Owo, Ondo state, Rt Hon Yakubu Dogara, expressed optimism that the pre- election and post 2023 election would make Nigeria to be more stronger and more united.

Dogara, said despite the growing anxiety over the election, the country would be more united as a nation, saying the 2023 election would not consume the country.

He however, called on Nigerians to employ radical solution in solving the leadership problems and challenges confronting the country, urging Nigerians to speak with their PVCs

According to him, being radical was to shun violence, vote buying, and embrace peaceful electoral processes that entailed orderliness, restore the sanctity of the rule of law and strengthen democratic institutions in order to build a just, fair and equitable society for all.

He said, “We cannot look away as stakeholders in the Nigeria project. It is therefore imperative that we have a voice in moving the Nation forward.

“Remember the power is your vote and vote is your future. Don’t sell it and don’t keep it in your room.

“You must use it. Participate by coming out massively to vote for your conscience. Vote for unity, peace, justice and development.”

Delivering his address at the event, the Pro-Chancellor and Chairman of the institution’s Council, Dr. Bode Ayorinde, noted that all staff of the institution would be enlisted with Pension Administrators of their choice to enable them be at par with workers in public universities.

Ayorinde who promised to pay the institution’s academic staff the recently adjustment in ASUU salary as announced by the federal government, said the school is planning to   increase the number of Colleges in the school to eight with at least 8000 students.

Honorary doctorate degrees were conferred on the Minister of Communication and Digital Economy, Prof Isa Ibrahim Pantami, a retired President of the Court of Appeal, Justice Ayo Salami and the Olowo of Owo, Oba Ajibade Gbadegeshin Ogunoye III.

The Governor of Ondo State, Oluwarotimi Odunayo Akeredolu (SAN), facilitated with Achievers University on their 12th Convocation and 15th Foundation Anniversary for 2022 Academic Session.

Akeredolu, who was represented by his Special Adviser on Education, Dr. Olawumi Juliet Ilawole congratulated the Management and graduates, imploring the students to use the skills, education and training acquired from the citadel of learning to develop the society and be good ambassadors of Achievers University wherever they find themselves.

The Governor acknowledged the parents and guardians, adding that the graduants should avoid any act of social abnormalities as they go into the society and enjoined other global industries to invest in the education sector.

Meanwhile, Dogara facilitated the Honorary Doctoral Degree Awardees, His Lordship, Hon. Justice Ayo Isa Salami, His Imperial Majesty, Olowo of Owo, Oba Ajibade Gbadegesin Ogunoye III, Proprietors and other Stakeholders of Achievers University for the successful event.

Moreso, the Vice Chancellor, Prof. Samuel Olabanji Aje, while delivering his speech, gave thanks to the Almighty God for granting them grace to witness the ceremony, also rejoicing with the Council, Management, Staff, Parents, Guardians students and the entire population of Owo Kingdom for witnessing the annual event.

The Vice Chancellor, said 30 out of a total of 520 graduands bagged the First Class degree, saying the institution would soon begin programme in Aviation, Pharmacy and Medicine.

He added that, the admission for 2022/2023 academic exercise is still ongoing and the array of programmes, including quality staff and facilities are available for groom the students and take the institution to another greater level.

Meanwhile, goodwill messages were sent by Vice Chancellors of various Universities across Nigeria to commemorate with Achievers University such as Federal University of Technology, Akure (FUTA), Obafemi Awolowo University (OAU), Afe Babalola University (ABUAD), Bowen University, Benue State University, Igbinediun University, among others.

However, the Conferment of Honorary Degrees were given to His Imperial Majesty, Oba Ajibade Gbadegesin Ogunoye III, Former President, Court of Appeal of Nigeria, Hon. Justice Isa Ayo Salami and the Minister of Communications and Digital Economy, Prof. Isa Ali Ibrahim (Pantami); while variety of Awards and Cash Prizes by Staff, Department and Management were given to some of the graduated students who performed greatly for the 2021/2022 Session.

The Valedictory Speech was given by Akintayo Oluwatobi Daniel, who was the best graduating student with outstanding academic performance and leadership qualities.

Akintayo acknowledged the Almighty God for the gift of life and for making the day possible. He also congratulated the undergraduates, postgraduates, Management and other well wishers for their love and support all through the session
