Ibaka FC Champions of 4thAkogun football competition

Ibaka FC have defeated Ikese Football Club 3-2 to emerge winners of Fourth Edition of the Akogun Annual Football Competition.
This year’s edition which was decided at the Ojomirin High School, Agba Oka Football Field had 19 clubs from the various quarters in Oka participated, the highest number of participants so far in the history of the competition.
Olubaka of Okaland, Dr. Yusuf Adebori Adeleye, OON and Col. Roland Omoowa (Rtd), quarters Chiefs were among the over 2000 spectators in the community that watched the entertaining Final Match.
Ibaka FC came out victorious in a penalty shootout after a goalless draw with Ikese FC on regulation time in the keenly contested match to lift the trophy, while Wangara FC came third after defeating Olowasa FC in the third place match.
Thirty six matches were played with four Hat-tricks, three red cards, 94 yellow cards, while a total of 70 goals were scored in the one month long competition which usually heralds Oka Day celebrations.
Speaking shortly after the event, the Olubaka of Oka, Oba Dr Yusuf Adeleye, commended the organiser for his consistency in discovering talents in the community.
The monarch urged well meaning Nigerians to focus on grassroots Sports Development to bring out hidden talents in the country to lime light.
The organiser of the competition,Akogun Olugbenga Omole who is the Lawmaker representing Akoko South West Constituency 1, and Chairman Ondo State House of Assembly Committee on Information,Youth and Sports Development said the purpose of organising the competition was not only to discover talents that abounds in his Constituency, but to have one of the best and most effective Football Academy in Nigeria situated in Oka Akoko in the nearest future.
While describing Football as a huge business,he said he will continue giving platform to the youths in the community to showcase their talents.
He affirmed that some of the players discovered since the competition which began about 5 years ago, are already plying their trade in Nigerian Professional Football League and Europe.
Trophy was later presented to the winners while participating teams smiled home with mouth watering cash prizes.
Individual prizes went to the highest goal scorer, best goalkeeper, most valuable player and the best coach.
